So I heard global warming is caused by the sun, and not light bulbs.

True?
False?

It's a rather meaningless event. By meaningless, I mean its action produces no measurable result. Not trying to flame anyone here, just the people organizing the event.

True.

The sun was overactive recently and now is starting to have less and less flares, now contributing to a new phenomenon called "Global Cooling" Which really sucks, cause I rather have it warmer than colder.

There even is an article in Yahoo about robots in the oceans not registering ANY degree increase in the oceans.

This event was not organized to change a whole-deal..
it was an organized to spread awareness of global warming..
this event has spread from Sydney in 2007 to around 360 cities around the world..

We were gonna turn on more lights, but couldn't be bothered. So we settled for leaving them all on anyway. Stupid event.

We actually had a global cooling crisis (late 60's, early 70's IIRC).

There was even talk about dumping soot on the polar ice caps to absorb more heat from the sun.

Back then we didn't have instant global communication like we have now, so not many people heard about it.

As I've said before, the temperature has gone up and down for millions of years. In the 20th century people said that we are going towards a new ice age (As we eventually are). Ans the earth's orbit around the sun isn't a perfect circle, that explains some of the temperature changes, and also there are times (every 100 000 years if I remember correctly) when earth is on its closest to the sun.

But if people want to turn of their lights I have nothing against it.

EDIT: My spelling fails when it goes to science

If everyone in the world actually did this every country would save thousands and thousands, and depending on size, millions.

Unfortunately, turning off every lamp for an hour is a request some cant fulfill. Not everyone is doing absolutely nothing at that time.

If not to stop global warming, then at least do it to save energy. Fossil fuels will only last us so long, you know.

And supposedly one of the effects of global warming is extreme temperatures at both ends (really hot summers AND really cold winters).

I'll be dead before we run out of fossil fuels, so I don't really care.

Honest answer. I don't post crap to make myself look good in these type of threads.

The average person won't care either.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Okay... if you don't want to turn off your lights, thats fine, but burning a tire just in spite, and claiming that Global Warming is False when theres a whole load of evidence for it, compared to against it, is just stupid. what possible harm can it do to cut down on CO2 emissions, instead of purposefully increasing it?

more CO2 emissions are better for crops, thats proven. You should be happy because that means more corn for your ethanol!
